Pool Time @ Home

On the 3 Sept, the wheather was hot and got a phone call from Jimmy for joining his daughter, Nicole at his home pool.  Quickly get them to change and pack some clothes and milk.  And walked to Jimmy's home...  They're excited...

Kids do love water, some might be a little bit scared to it, though, Ian just jumped in, whereas Ryan really scared, he just watering the plant in the garden.

Ian and Nicole enjoyed playing with the water gun and fun spending time in the pool.

KL Bird Park @ Lake Garden

We’ve been planning for 2 months to visit KL Bird Park, Aquaria, Dinosaur exhibition during the school holiday.  Finally, on 31 Aug 11, we went to KL Bird Park together with 2 friends and kids.

We met at 8 am for breakfast and arrived at KL Bird Park around 9:30 am.  The entrance fee is RM20 for adult and RM10 for children (for MyKad holder).  However, if you have Jusco/Metrojaya member card, you’ll get extra RM5 off.

The day was not too sunny, a bit cloudy and it’s perfect for a walk in the park.  The entire park looks extremely well maintained, beautiful landscape surrounding and the animals are in good condition.

This bird park is the biggest free-flight walk-in aviary in the world.  I like the concept.

The parrots section, RM2 for a cup of milk and sunflower seeds, the kids afraid to feed the parrots.  No choice, then the adults got to do it, and the kids had fun by watching it.

The kids were all excited, seeing birds walking along the path, flying, perching and winging on the branch above them.  They kept exclaiming, especially Ian & YuChien, whereas Janelle & Ryan still do not know much.

We missed out the photo taking booth where you can take picture with birds of your choice for a charge of RM10 per pax.

We walked past, or rather, rushed through several aviaries and headed to the amphitheatre for a special bird show at 10.30am.  The show was quite entertaining, many tricks the birds were able to perform it and it’s not to be missed.  After the show, they played at the playground nearby.

We took another route to walk back to the main entrance and across the beautiful waterfall.  We also saw ostriches and emus (those big body, skinny leg bird).  There’s also a nursery, nothing much, in there, only a TV show on the education of chicken growing, some posters how chicks grow into chickens and there’s an incubator too.  It was smelly in there.

We left around 1 pm for lunch.  Thereafter, headed to the Dinosaur Exhibition at Pusat Sains, Mont Kiara, unfortunately, it’s closed.

Overall, we had a great time.

Homemade Steamboat

There's a family gathering at sis's home on the first day of Hari Raya (30 Aug 11).  I was delighted when sis suggested to have a homemade steamboat at her home.  Personally, I love steamboat, a good steamboat session is about 3 things:

1)  Freshness of the ingredients;
2)  Quality of the soup; and
3)  Quality time spend together

Sis prepared a delicious steamboat dinner, we all enjoyed.  The special thing about the steamboat is Oliver & sis purposely went to Sekinchan to buy the seafood (big shrimps, cuttlefish, jellyfish, fish fillet, fish dumpling, fish balls, fish cakes, seafood toufu, yong toufu, etc) and a special belacan chilli made by Oliver.

Ian was so helpful, trying to ask what everyone wants and help dumping the food in the soup.

The kids were enjoyed playing with each other on the roof top of the house.  What a wonderful day!

Making "Bing Pi" Mooncake

This's my first time to make "Bing Pi" mooncake.  It was strongly recommended by the lady from Polymart Bakery shop.  I bought a packet of the "Bing Pi" mooncake mix and I've chosen the green tea lotus paste (my favourite).  Besides, I bought a cartoon mooncake mould, it consisted of 6 cartoons (Mickey, 2 Hello Kitty, Doremon, Pooh).  I should buy the seeds to mix with the filling, but I didn't, I just thought of trying only, will definitely put it in next time.

I cannot believe how simple I can make this at home.  A bit of kneading to do (a bit oily and messy).  The experience was really amazing.  Initially, I did not get it right, but since the dough is so flexible, I can always reshape it into a ball (try your best to keep the filling inside) and try to press out again.

Surprisingly, Ian also made it in his kindergarten and brought one home, I'm so impressed...

Mid-Autumn is around the corner, and thinking of buying few boxes of mooncakes will easily cost more than RM200.  This is really a cost effective way.

Ingredients:
  • 1 pack Mooncake premix @ RM9.50
  • 1 pack Green Tea Mung Bean Paste @ RM11.50
  • 70g shortening
  • Some water
  • Flavouring – Vanila essence
  • Mould – Plastic Bing Pi Mould @ RM8.90
Method: (dough)
  1. Add the shortening and water to the premix
  2. Knead till you feel it’s elastic
  3. Cover and let it rest in fridge for 30 min
Filling:
-roll them into balls.
There is variety of filling/paste to choose

How to shape the mooncake
  1. Divide ready cold dough into balls. Press them flat.
  2. Wrap the filling with your dough.
  3. Shape them into balls before putting them carefully into your mould.
  4. Press them out

James's Birthday Lunch @ Sushi Zanmai

Kelvin, Debbie, James and me had birthday lunch at Sushi Zanmai, The Gardens on 11 Aug 2011.  Usually, there're long queue during peak hours and weekends, even on weekdays.  There're no queue and we got a comfort seat just nice for four, coz our appointment was 2 pm, just nice...

Reasonable price, great sushi, & the refillable hot green tea costs RM1++ per person.  The price is about the same like Sushi King but the taste & the quality of the food are better than others.

It's always a nice chat with old friends...

James's Birthday Celebration

Before his birthday, I was thinking that I must took an effort to do something to appreciate him, so in mind to celebrate his birthday with the family members.  It's also a good chance to get a great time together with the family members.

I wanted to bake Liverpool cupcakes for him, but unfortunately, I couldn't find the edible print.  Finally, I selected "Angry Birds", these birds are everywhere and the kids quite like it though.

James's 2 lovely sisters & nieces...
Thank you for the gifts too...

Gift from me

Bukit Jalil Park

It has been a long plan for James to bring the kids to a receation park during the weekend.  He believes that physical activity is very important for children and it can improve health and teach them to live in a healthy lifestyle.

On 30 July 2011, we brought them to Bukit Jalil Park, it's located near the National Sports Complex.  The park is big and beautiful with hilly landscape, children playgound, fish ponds, jogging tracks, themed houses and many other facilities.  We have not explore to all, only the children playground for these 2 weeks.

The kids enjoy and like it very much, we will try to bring them once a week to this park.  Thumbs up for the cleaniness and well keep.

Chore Chart for Ian

I've personalised 3 chore charts for Ian in monthly basis, started this month August.  I printed a Ben10 in A3, pasted it on the board with some stickers.  I wish that it would help him to benefit the below mentioned.

The benefit of the chore chart includes:
  • promote good behavior
  • build independence
  • boost self-esteem
  • keep kids on track
  • help kids stay focused
  • improve organisational skills
  • motivate & reward
The 3 chore chards are:

My Behavior Better Chart
I think this is a "must have" chore chart for Ian.  It list and track kids' behaviors that need improvement at home and when away.

My Daily Routine Chart
Perfect chore chart for kids who need to have their days broken up into smaller parts, with only a few routine-type tasks assigned to each.  I separated it into 4 catogories, in the morning, after school, in the evening & at night (before bed).  This makes getting tasks done so much easier.

My Homework & Study Chart
Encourage good homework, study skills and habits with this chore chart.  I created 4 subjects areas let him to track homework assignments, studying and keep clean at the study hall.

Lunch with Old Friend_KLIA Transit

Bumped into a secondary schoolmate in the lift, Quill 7 and we met up for lunch on 25 July 2011, it was a nice chat with her at food court, Sooka...

We were studied in Chong Hwa High School.  I really miss those bunch of people!  They're really a fantastic group of people to be around.  Those secondary school life was definitely memorable.  I didn't join them for the large gathering, hope that i can join for the next one...

It was good meeting up with you again after such a long time, Vicky!  Speaking about being glad to meet up with old friends, "sigh", I'm old enough to have 'old' friend.

Guess what, we're staying quite nearby to each other and get to know that the KLIA Transit is very convenience to work, from Bandar Tasik Selatan Station to KL Sentral is only 7 mins @ RM4.20 per trip.

Generally, the service is efficient, comfortable and fast.

Homemade Baby Food

Got an idea from a friend, Teresa to make this homemade baby food.  It's a great success for me by making the baby food in bulk and freezing it in portions.  This is also convenient for me to be able to take food with us when we are heading out, regardless if it is planned or not, as I always have a stock pile in the freezer.  Trust me, I've tried it, it's really delicious...

Easy steps:
Ingredients:
4 potatos
2 carrots
2 tomatos
1/2 brocolli
2 slices pumpkin
Fish

-  chop up the above ingredients;
-  steam veggies, placing the veggies which take the longest to cook on the bottom;
-  Once cooked, puree/mash the veggie with anchovies soup
-  Add fish and place them in container

(p/s:  You may put your baby favourite food or any others vegetables)

If you have storage, you may make more and store it in the freezer.
